INFORMATION:

Welcome to THE INTERNATIONAL WEB PAGE AWARDS - the largest international forum of web site designers on the internet. Created with the designer in mind, THE INTERNATIONAL WEB PAGE AWARDS brings recognition to graphic artists, website designers, advertising agencies, corporations, companies, and individuals who wish to spotlight their creativity in interactive design.

At present, in the marketing and advertising communities, there are many industry awards that bring to the forefront the significant creative achievements of the individuals that help companies market their products to the masses. These awards are given out at annual award presentations designed to bring recognition to these individuals. The competition provides an international forum through which advertising agencies, producers, art directors, designers, TV and radio stations as well as corporate advertisers can attain recognition for their creative endeavors.

When we first started our festival there were no known competitions that rivaled "The Cleos", "Mobius", or other internationally well known marketing events with respect to the internet. Most of the awards you would see on the internet were sponsored by one or more corporations and were really nothing more then marketing tools used to attract new customers to their products and or services. Web designers submitted their website designs for consideration to these programs. If the organization that oversaw the award deemed the website worthy of creative mention; the designer was then sent a logo which they could load onto his/her own website. This link then provided back to the sponsor of the award, valuable increases in traffic and exposure to their award site.

Other well known internet festivals require web sites to be nominated. The nominees are selected by a nominating branch of a special association set up by entirely by the festival. Sites are then chosen by a panel of judges by means of an unknown judging process. Web sites typically nominated are normally very popular sites, chosen more for their level of traffic and exposure, then creativity or graphic art work. In addition, most of the people doing the judging are not graphic artists or web designers but evangelists, visionaries, journalists, politicians, sports figures and celebrities.

What The International Web Page Awards set out to create was a very high profile and prestigious award and awards ceremony for the recognition of outstanding graphic design and creativity on the internet. The competition is open to all websites. It gives the opportunity for small design firms and individuals to compete against much larger and more well know advertising agencies and interactive design companies. The popularity of the website, is not relevant to the competition.

Ed Fish Chairman of our festival worked for 10 years with The Mobius Advertising Awards as well as The US International Film and Video Festival. It was his experience with these two important Award Festivals that prompted him to create the IWPA. Says Ed, "I wanted to create an award and awards ceremony that was truly for the sole purpose of evaluating creativity on the internet. A festival of designers worldwide, one that was open to all web sites and one that would reflect what the web was all about , a new global medium that acts as both a marketing tool for businesses internationally, and meeting place for people of all cultures."

We are now entering into the eighth year of our annual competition. Countries with website designers participating are: Australia, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and The United States.

Judges for the competition are recruited solely from the entries received. In order to qualify as a judge in the competition, individuals had to submit an entry and be qualified and knowledgeable in most of the following: HTML and/or DHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, CGI, JavaScript, Active-X, Java, web browser inconsistencies, plug-in technology, database integration, graphic design fundamentals, web animation techniques such as GIF animation and/or Shockwave animation, streaming technologies, and e-commerce solutions.

Judges review entries utilizing a 26 question critique based on the attributes of the web site. Each site is reviewed by four different Judges. The questions consist of 10 for graphic design, 10 for content and 6 for programing, with each question or attribute having a maximum value of 6 points.
