Third Annual International Web Page Awards
showcases the best of the best
Competition judged by some of the world's
leading web designers
LOS GATOS, CA, March 21, 2001 - One-hundred-and-fifty-two Web-site designs have earned "Creative Excellence Awards" for their designers in The 2000 International Web Page Awards. Each one of the award-winning sites/pages are eligible for the "Best of Festival" and "Best of Category" awards to be announced on April 26, 2001, at a black tie dinner in the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.
The International Web Page Awards program was established in 1998. It is the first genuine international forum for web designers and graphic artists to acknowledge their peers for work done in the previous year. Rated by "Wired Magazine" as one of the top 5 internet awards in the world, the awards program has garnered immense respect and acclaim in the industry for its authenticity and the quality of the winning entries. In its inaugural year the award program drew more than 450 entries in 30 categories from advertising agencies, corporations, design studios and webmasters. In the 2000 competition the festival received in excess of 700 entries from 22 different countries.
In 2000, thirty-nine of the award-winning pages were created outside the United States, compared with only twenty-one in 1999. Big winners were Elephant Seven in Hamburg with six winning entries, Siegelgale with five, and four each by Modem Media, with three created in their Honk Kong office, Head New Media in London, 3W Studios in Tallahassee, Florida, and Scholz & Volkmer in Wiesbaden. This year the dominance of California designers waned, dropping from forty-five in 1999 to thirty-four this year. Again, New York was the state with the second highest number of winners up from twenty-four to thirty-one. Although many U.S. states had winning designs, the big news was the emergence of German designers with eleven wins.
Other multiple winning designers include: ADDIS in Berkeley, California; AGENCY.COM in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Asiacontent.com in Singapore; A.D.2 in Santa Monica, California; Clear Ink in Walnut Creek, California; Creative Edge in Woodland Hills, California; Fusive.com in Deerfield Beach, Florida; GO.com in Richmond, Vermont; Gr8 in Baltimore, Maryland; Fusebox, J. Walter Thompson, Lowe Lintas Interactive, Luminant Worldwide, Ogilvy Interactive and Zentropy Partners in New York, New York; Hirons and Company in Bloomington, Indiana; Imagine That in Lisle, Illinois, SF Interactive and Maquette Online in San Francisco, California; MC2 in Columbus, Ohio; Palla, Koblinger & Spreitzer in Vienna, Austria; Project 514 in Los Angeles, California; Sausage Software in Melbourne, Australia; SiteLab International in La Jolla, California; USA Today.com in Arlington, Vermont; Valtech in Copenhagen, Denmark.
According to Edwin Fish, Chairman of the International Web Page Awards, a minimum of four judges selected each winning entry in every category. "None of the judges could grade his or her own site," Mr. Fish explained. "In that way, each entry is assured of fair and equitable treatment by judges who are, themselves, top designers and graphic artists."
On April 26, the "Best of Festival" and "Best of Category" award winners will be announced at a black tie dinner at The Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California.
