LOS GATOS, CA. April 14th, 2003. One-hundred-and-three Web-site designs have earned Creative Excellence Awards for their designers in The 2002 International Web Page Awards. Each one of the award-winning sites/pages are eligible for the Best of Festival and Best of Category awards to be announced at their awards banquet on June 13th, 2003 at The Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, CA.

The International Web Page Awards program was established in 1998. It is the first genuine international forum for web designers and graphic artists to acknowledge their peers for work done in the previous year. Rated by Wired Magazine as one of the top 5 internet awards in the world, the awards program has garnered immense respect and acclaim in the industry for its authenticity and the quality of the winning entries. The 2002 competition received in excess of 500 entries from 25 different countries.

Big winners were USAToday.com out of Virginia with 7 awards, Bleu22 Studios Inc. of California with five, Organic of Michigan with 5, Die Firma - Innovative Kommunikation GmbH of Germany with 3 along with Ogilvy Sweden, National Geographic Magazine of D.C., Zipatoni of Missouri and Big Spaceship of New York. California designers received the most awards garnishing 23 and New York agencies followed with 14. Germany led the International foreign recipients with 7 awards. Other countries with winners in the competition include Canada, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mauritius, The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and The United Kingdom.

According to Edwin Fish, Chairman of the International Web Page Awards, a minimum of four judges selected each winning entry in every category. None of the judges could grade his or her own site, Mr. Fish explained. In that way, each entry is assured of fair and equitable treatment by judges who are, themselves, top designers and graphic artists.
