Disney Online Judged Best Website of 2000
Third Annual International Web Page Awards Showcases the Best of the Best

SAN JOSE, CA: 10:00 p.m., Thursday, April 26, 2001 Disney Online captured the "Best of Festival" award and secured its place in Internet history, tonight in San Jose, at the 2000 International Web Page Awards. The online division of the entertainment giant beat 151 other "Creative Excellence Award" winners at a black tie dinner Awards Ceremony held at The Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

In all, 25 designers won 29 "Best of Category" awards at the prestigious independent, international forum for web page designers and graphic artists. The competition judges, all esteemed designers themselves, reviewed more than 700 entries, submitted by advertising agencies, corporations, design studios, independent Webmasters and designers, from 22 different countries.

The International Web Page Awards program was established in 1998. It is the first genuine international forum for web designers and graphic artists to acknowledge their peers for work done in the previous year. As a result, in only its third year, the award program has already garnered immense respect and acclaim, in the industry, for its authenticity and for the quality of the winning entries. It was rated one of the top 5 internet design competitions by "Wired Magazine" and the Mayor of San Jose, Ron Gonzales, proclaimed this International Web Page Awards Week.

According to Edwin Fish, Chairman of the International Web Page Awards, "The festival acknowledges the best Web designs created in the World. It allows independent designers to compete against the largest agencies and multi-national corporations. The standards are very high because the designs are judged by those best equipped to judge these pages - web designers themselves. It was a very exciting evening. Congratulations to Disney and all the other exceptional entrants."

Four designer firms won in two categories, including independent designer Jim Armstrong who won for Audio Visual Qualities in addition to the Personal Web Site category. The other double "Best of Category" winners were Asiacontent.com in Music and Film, USAToday.com in News and Politics and Modem Media in Arts and Reference-Purchase.

RedZep, the next-generation video production company, has captured some of the excitement at the event through video interviews with award-winners. The interviews and other footage from the Ceremony will be streamed onto the Internet from April 28, 2001, onwards through the Awards site, www.WebPageAwards.com. The IWPA web site has been completely redesigned this year by Matt Wolf Web Media & Design - a consecutive-year IWPA winner for "Best of Community 1999" and "Best of Personal 1998."
