The International Web Page Awards program was established in 1998. It is the first genuine international forum for Web designers and graphic artists to acknowledge their peers for work done in the previous year. In three short years the program has garnered immense respect and acclaim in the industry for its authenticity and the quality of the winning entries. Countries with web site designers participating are: Australia, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands and The United States. The IWPA has been rated by "Wired Magazine" as one of the top 5 internet awards in the world.

The competition is open to all web sites. The popularity of the web site, is not relevant to the competition. It gives the opportunity for small design firms and individuals to compete against much larger and more well known advertising agencies and interactive design shops.     The International Web Page Awards has established 40 different categories including advertising, arts, entertainment, corporate, finance, education, health, news, personal Web pages, religion/philosophy, science, sports, student sites and travel. Entries may be entered into more then one category. Closing date for entries is November 30, 2001.
